Leigh began to draw from a very early age. As he progressed through his school years his attention to detail in his drawings and paintings became very apparent and is one of the characteristics that makes his work so distinctive. So his inspiration for his early work came from childhood recollections. Growing up in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne his memories are of northern cobbled streets and rows of terraced houses. It was only when he left his hometown that he realised the importance of it all to him. A deep pride of his heritage and roots, where parents and grandparents had all grown up.

Leigh is a very visual storyteller and his street scenes normally contain many people and all played out in normal everyday situations.
